My team had a CarnEvil Carnival tonight at a local 3-D haunted house. This place was scary! The theme for the haunted house was pirates so there were pirates roaming around everywhere. And cannon fire kept going off at random times.

My team was part of the sideshow attractions and games. So our theme was scary roller girl carnies. I do not do scary well…no matter how hard I try!

It fuzzy, but a quick snapshot of me a one of my derby wives at a fundraiser tonight.

I love Dingo, she is an amazing woman, high powered buyer for a high end clothing store. And she has started dating a new guy….I am very protective of her as I went through her divorce, moved her into her apartment and helped her spend a ton of money during therapy shopping. I have now met “new guy” and am in the process of deciding if he is good enough for my derby wife!

A girls gotta do what she’s gotta do.

This is what I call hopeful!

After procrastinating all summer long, this sunflower finally decided it was time to make an appearance. The rest of the garden has gone to seed, with the exception of a couple of pumpkins.

I don’t actually have the heart to tell the poor thing that it was not fashionably late, but showed up after the party. For now I just watch it as it searches hopeful for the sun to follow, and chuckle at its silliness.

This is my eldest. This is how he sits in every chair he occupies. It makes me crazy.

After falling one too many times while trying to lean back in the rocking chair, he devised a method to keep from falling. He honestly sits in his room and reads like this all the time. Of course sometimes he needs a Lego break…how convenient is that?

Frog: I need a loan, the wife is at home with 2000 eggs and we need a bigger place.

Ms. Wack: Well, do you have collateral?

Frog: oh, let me go back home and get it.

…..later that afternoon

Frog: here you are Ms. Wack, this ceramic figurine is of my father and is extremely dear to me.

Ms. Wack: I am not sure if this will work as collateral, let me call in the manager.

The manager enters greets the frog and admires the figurine.

Manager: this is a beautiful ceramic figurine Mr. Frog, we are happy to offer you a loan.

Ms. Wack: are you sure that thing is worth the money he wants to borrow?

Mgr: yes, it will do. Please process the paperwork ASAP.

Ms.Wack: yes sir, but what shall I put down as collateral…what is that thing?

Mngr: it’s a knickknack Patty Wack, give the frog a loan!

My Aunt Jesse told me that joke when I was 5. She passed away last week and though I know she is happier, I feel like a piece of my heart has been taken away.

The colors of autumn, rainy afternoons and roads flooded because the gutters are plugged with leaves. Of course people are stupid and drive through the puddles hydro-planing and freaking out because “I didn’t realize it was so deep!” To which I answer “I didn’t realize you could be blind and drive!”

Ah well, they don’t give out a Darwin Award to geniuses do they? The Rainbow made me happy, I was off to two practices (each 2 hours long). I also was prepared for my body to be extra tired and sore today, however that is not the case.

I have been told that you can burn 1000 to 2000 calories per practice if you are working hard. I work hard enough that i took a change of clothes so I could get out of my wet clothes and be dry for the second practice…I was soaked in sweat by the end of second practice too. It would be awesome to see how many calories are burned off during the average practice.

My name is Ela. I am seventeen years old. I am not Muslim, but my friend told me about her friend being discriminated against for wearing a hijab. So I decided to see the discrimination firsthand to get a better understanding of what Muslim women go through.

My friend and I pinned scarves around our heads, and then we went to the mall. Normally, vendors try to get us to buy things and ask us to sample a snack. Clerks usually ask us if we need help, tell us about sales, and smile at us. Not today. People, including vendors, clerks, and other shoppers, wouldn’t look at us. They didn’t talk to us. They acted like we didn’t exist. They didn’t want to be caught staring at us, so they didn’t look at all.

And then, in one store, a girl (who looked about four years old) asked her mom if my friend and I were terrorists. She wasn’t trying to be mean or anything. I don’t even think she could have grasped the idea of prejudice. However, her mother’s response is one I can never forgive or forget. The mother hushed her child, glared at me, and then took her daughter by the hand and led her out of the store.

All that because I put a scarf on my head. Just like that, a mother taught her little girl that being Muslim was evil. It didn’t matter that I was a nice person. All that mattered was that I looked different. That little girl may grow up and teach her children the same thing.

This experiment gave me a huge wakeup call. It lasted for only a few hours, so I can’t even begin to imagine how much prejudice Muslim girls go through every day. It reminded me of something that many people know but rarely remember: the women in hijabs are people, just like all those women out there who aren’t Muslim.

People of Tumblr, please help me spread this message. Treat Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Taoists, etc., exactly the way you want to be treated, regardless of what they’re wearing or not wearing, no exceptions. Reblog this. Tell your friends. I don’t know that the world will ever totally wipe out prejudice, but we can try, one blog at a time.

This should be part of tolerance training in all religious and seminary schools.

Today it was my teams turn to clean our leagues adopted street. We put on our lovely orange vests and rubber gloves and grabbed the bin liners and started cleaning.

This is the second time I have cleaned this mile and both times I have been taken by the fact that most of the rubbish in those bags is comprised of cigarette butts or cigarette wrappers.

Can someone please explain this phenomenon!?

I’m in my creative baking season. This means I have found recipes that, may or may not, be added to my fridge list of “most used recipes”.

Today I tried my hand at a French baguette. My son is a complete baguette snob and so he was quite reticent to try it. He ended up pulling out some balsamic vinegar and eating 1/4 of a loaf. He loved it!

This particular loaf is nice and hard on the outside and soft yet substantial on the inside. It is a nice and easy recipe so I think it’s a keeper.

Monday 10/15

We used the last of our blueberry jam and have popped open the last peach jam today. Luckily I froze some of the blueberries we picked so I can make another batch of blueberry jam and start the strawberry jam tomorrow.

I made blackberry and raspberry jam tonight. I am hoping to find some late peaches at the farmers market to replenish my peach jam.

Gotta love fresh fruit jam in the middle of winter!

Intermission…Kaia is “defying gravity” and eating a hotdog from the vendor on the corner. Her only complaint during the first half was a quick “I’m hungry” and as the lines were so long inside the theatre, we popped out and fed her very quickly.

I was amazed at how Kaia sat transfixed watching Wicked. She took everything in and I do believe she is hooked. She is planning West End when we go to London this spring. Apparently she is also planning London…lol.

I love that she has found something that excites her.
